Panyembrama Dance (Welcome Dance)

Panyembrana Dance is one of popular welcoming dance in society of Balinese. This dance is danced by two or more, the important is even. This Panyembrana Dance is very unique because its dancer bring a silver bowl full contains of flowers, and the end of this dance, the dancers will trow the flowers as a welcome greeting. The dancers also will dance something religious, i.e. dancer will sit with knees bend and pray in order all guests stayed far from negative elements during the journey and beg for the flowers become holy and also be sowed can give blessing.

Once upon a time, this dance is performed in empire to welcome king arrival from the trip and also arrival of important empire’s guests. But after the age flowing, this Panyembrana dance is danced to welcome overseas guests or other important guests , including all tourists and foreigners visiting to Bali. This Panyembrana dance also performed to begin an important occasion, such as official announcement of building, wedding day, product launching and also to begin a dinner time.

Because this dance is already exist from the past, hence it is unknown who created this dance. Many artists in the prior time served their self to empire, and on that moment the artists given command by king to make a dance able to be used to welcome empire’s guests on occasion held by the king.

Costume used by this Panyembrana dancer is Tapih (layer cloth coating kamben), kamben (sarong), belt (small long cloth bandage the body from waist till chest), shawl (cloth closing chest), and headdress full of roses and frangipani also put on a gold flower reflects a glory of empire. Time goes by and more modern, this costume of Panyembrana dancer getting more developed with combination bright and contrast color, so that the dance become more interested with unique Bali nuance.

Joged Dance

This jogged dance is a social society dance which have been exist since previous era, its creation also not known exactly. This social dance in previous era, is identical with harvest party or event entertainment of other society, because staging of jogged dance very sticky to the heart of its audience, because of the audience can dance and along with the dancer.

This Jogged dance usually staging when there is a party to celebrate a successfully of harvest which held by all the farmers. Women dancing is accompanied by simply music, then ask the men to dance along with them.

Word of Jogged mean is shake, dance, wobbly. Jogged itself identical to hip wobble. Hip wobble become a special feature of this Jogged dance, but in equity boundary for sure.

In developing era made this Jogged dance encounter advance development also. The more event using jogged dance as an entertainment, because this jogged dance very socialist and made as a relationship dance. For wedding party, thanks event, even for dinner in the hotel using this jogged dance.

The dancer with simple dress and shawl which tight on hip also fan as an accessories adding a bustle of this dance. The dancer will invite her partner to dance with wearing to him her shawl or touching him with her fan.

The Story of Frog Dance

Once upon a time, when there were Hinduism Kingdoms in Java Island there lived a couple of husband and wife. They had no child. One day they went to a forest looking for fire wood. In the forest they were tired and thirsty. It was difficult to find water, and then the wife saw a coconut shell. The coconut shell filled with water. She was very happy then immediately takes it and drink the water. A few minutes later she felt her stomach moved into a change. She felt that she was pregnant. On the way back home they met a big frog but they didn’t pay attention to the big frog. A few days after the incident, she gave birth to a frog. The couple was amazed as if they were not believed what was happen. Although their son was in a shape of a frog they loved their son as if it was a baby. As year passed by the frog grow to become adult. When he met a princess of Daha he fell in love to the princess. Then he asked his mother to arrange his engagement with the beautiful princess. When the frog’s mother applied the princess the King was extremely angry. He ordered his Chief Minister to execute her. But he promised that if the minister failed in killing her he would permit the frog to marry the princess. When the Chief Minister tried to kill the frog’s mother he was always failed. He couldn’t kill her. The king believed that the woman possessed a strong magical power. Finally he permitted his daughter to be married to the frog. The frog was so ashamed to his face. Then he decided to pray at the top of Mahameru Mountain in a hope he would be granted a human form. Because of the power of his faith he was changed into a handsome and strong boy. In his meditation he received a vision that he himself was a prince of Janggala who died when the eruption of Kelud mountain, and he had been reborn in the form of a frog. After changing into a handsome boy and knew that he was prince he back to his wife (the princess) then he held wonderful wedding ceremony. All kings in java were invited in order to know that the frog actually was the prince of Janggala who had been reincarnated as frog. Finally they live happily and the prince had been a king ruled Kahuripan Kingdom.
